We welcome new members ~ Easter 2008

Church Membership

The Anthony United Methodist Church strives to be a place where one is nurtured and transformed by the love of Jesus Christ, trained as a disciple and sent out into the world so that other may also know of his love. Faith is important to the people of the church, but so are the works of that faith.

What Is Expected

  • Regular attendance in Worship. This means attending unless ill or out of town.
  • Participate in a least one small group. (Sunday School, weekday bible study, United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, Youth Group, Choir, etc.)
  • To give financially, according to our means. We encourage the practice of Tithing (giving 10%.)
  • To give service at least once during the first year of membership. (Help with Vacation Bible School, a Women's Group service project, as a few examples.)
  • Pray regularly for the church and the people of the church.

Becoming A Member

If you are interested in becoming a member of the church, please make an appointment to meet with the pastor by contacting the church office or e-mailing the office at anthonyumc@sbcglobal.net. You can call for an appointment at (620)842-5486.

Ways To Become a Member

If you are not currently a member of another church, or have never been a church member, you may simply declare your Christian faith to our pastor. We then baptize persons who have not been baptized, and recognize the profession of faith of those who join our community of faith.

If you are a member of another United Methodist church or any other Christian church, you can join Anthony United Methodist through a letter of transfer which our church office will be happy to arrange.

If you are a member of the United Methodist Church, and you are living in the Anthony area at a distance from their home church and desire to keep your membership there, you may become an Affiliate Member of First Church, retaining your membership "back home." If you are a member of another denomination, you may become an Associate Member under the same circumstances.
Sixth grade or older youth may become members of the Church after completing the Confirmation Class. Contact the church office for more information. High School age youth may profess their faith by visiting with a Pastor and join the Church by the profession of their faith.

A profession of faith will include the sacrament of baptism if you have never been baptized. (We do accept professions of faith from denominations that do not practice water baptism as sufficient.) We accept the baptisms of other denominations and we do not re-baptize in the United Methodist Church. We will reaffirm your baptism upon request.
